San Diego Airport Terminal 1, CA

The San Diego International Airport’s Terminal 1 replacement project is a design build project with Gensler as the lead architect, Turner leading the JV and a façade consulting team consisting of WPM’s Enclosure Engineering and Starq Design Inc as a DBE partner. Sanjeev Tankha was a key to the façade design development and acted as a subject matter expert in the team and leading the effort from concept design through construction.

The main terminal facades are designed in collaboration with an artist and utilize beautiful curved glass panels that evoke the ocean waves embed into a unitized curtain wall system. The main concourse building of the project uses a unitized facades approach both for the glazing as well as metal panel cladding areas in order to address efficiency in installation and fabrication.

The project is under construction. Sanjeev is a part of the construction administration effort overseeing it.
